We Want to Be One of Erin Fetherston’s Quirky Charm School Girls
It’s difficult not to be charmed by an ERIN Erin Fetherston presentation. Her feminine, elegant frocks and quirky, tongue-in-cheek styling are enough to make one wonder why we’d ever decide to allow a pair of pants into our wardrobe. Even the guests were next-level chic (like Fetherston herself). Many had bizarrely immaculate hairdos and perfectly-applied lipstick (considering this was 6pm following a whirlwind day of shows) as they sipped champagne in the W Hotel’s Great Room, looking out on the assemblage of models arranged like a class portrait (new trend?) on one side of the room.
Speaking of hotels, Fetherston was inspired by the Barbizon Hotel, a residence/charm school that housed ladies like Grace Kelly and Edith Bouvier Beale. Fetherston’s girls were ladylike and refined, but with an edge. Some wore nerdy glasses and one carried a floral flask (or did that particular model just have a drinking problem?).
You’re not going to see much variation or new ideas from season to season, but that’s because Fetherston is smartly giving her customers what they want — hence the success of this line versus her higher-end, more directional and now defunct Erin Fetherston collection. It’s stocked everywhere from Neiman Marcus to Nordstrom to Harvey Nichols Hong Kong. With ERIN, she’s found a balance of uber-pretty and salable — it’s a win-win for everyone involved. Here’s hoping that success continues, if only so we can keep attending these adorable presentations.
