The New Festival-Girl Beauty: Dries Van Noten's Decorative Gold Lips and Easy Waves
Fashion editors and stylists filing into Dries Van Noten‘s spring defilé this afternoon were greeted with a spectacular handwoven set piece that transformed the designer’s Grand Palais show space into a grassy woodland forest. And what timing. With the biggest climate-change march in history taking place on Wall Street last week, it’s safe to say that Mother Nature has assumed a prominent place in the collective consciousness of late.
For Van Noten, those eco-minded influences manifested themselves in floaty scarf dresses, folk-inspired skirts, plenty of prints, and a gentle, bohemian sense of beauty above the neck. “Dries was thinking of the kind of girl who goes to Burning Man. She’s not a hippie, but she loves nature—and she’s also a bit high-tech,” said makeup artist Peter Philips backstage, including communal outdoor happenings, such as Rainbow Gatherings, were mentioned).
