From sexy vixen to daytime diva, there are plenty of real life roles you can play with a dash of shimmer on your eyes

1. Smokey shimmer

Play up your natural looking brows with Freida Pinto's Cannes film festival look. Line your brows with kohl. Draw attention to your eyes with a dab of shimmer eye shadow in light gold. Line the upper and lower lids with kohl and smudge slightly, and you're ready to party.

2. Shimmery cat-eye

Give the classic winged eyeliner a shimmery update this year. The look is sexy, saucy and playful. It puts the emphasis straight on your peepers. You will need an eye crayon in dark metallic colours (grey or emerald green). Swipe it over your upper lid to create a winged look.

3. Dramatic blue

Apply and blend blue kohl all over the lids — diffusing it towards the brow bone — and lower lashline. Add definition with kohl on the upper lashline and through the lower waterline. Blend black liner for an inky veneer. Use dark blue shadow on the outer crease.

Edgy but girly, sparkling eyes are perfect for clubbing. Make your eyes pop with a stroke of black liquid liner on the upper lid, followed by mascara. Buy different-sized hologram glitter beads and stick onto the lower lashes, using makeup glue.

Keep it cool yet sultry like TV show Homeland actress Claire Danes on the red carpet with cobalt shimmer. Use a liner in cobalt blue on the upper lid. Dust a metallic blue shadow and a smokey charcoal one all over the eyelid. Finish off with a light dusting of loose blue glitter.

Take inspiration from singer Taylor Swift's eye makeup at a recent event for a glamorous daytime take. Use a light and glossy shimmer powder to create a smokey eye. It will give the illusion of bigger eyes. Finish off with black kohl. Keep the lips pale with pink gloss.

7. Futuristic vixen

Dewy and silvery, this version is sleek and futuristic. Smudge a dark eye pencil inside the waterline. Brush gunmetal silver cream shadow over the upper lid, followed by a bright silver cream and then a layer of eye gloss. Keep the lips bare.
